Last Days of Fall Decor

I love getting emails and pics from readers. These last days, I received a great surprise from Patti, with fall/halloween decor photos from her mother-in-law. Just in time for sharing them with you!

How do you like this gorgeous fall wreath? I love the colors in the dry leaves... so yummy!

Pumpkins, grapes, dry leaves, branches... and the candle! In fact, I have three very similar candles in my living room. I love the colors in them -perfect for fall!

There's a similar arrangement in the dining room. What a pretty place, isn't it?

... witches' legs! I love them, they look so easy to make, and look great! To bad I saw them late. I love the big pumpkins, and those spiders! Awesome!

Keep Calm and Carry On

I guess most of you have seen the "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster anywhere (or should I say everywhere?). In case you're wondering about where it came from, let me share the story with you.

This poster is part of a 3 poster series made by the Ministry of Information in 1939, in the early beginings of WWII. 

 War had just been declared, so the British government comissioned some posters to the MOI especially made to uplift the people's spirit. They were meant to have a bold background color, a simple yet effective tipography, the symbol of the King's crown, and short messages.

The other two were printed, distributed and placed in public spaces such as bus stops and stores. However, the "Keep Calm" sign was only meant to be used in case Germany invaded the Great Britain. Since it never happened, the posters were destroyed, and were never used

The poster would have remained unknown forever, but in 2000 Barter Books  second-hand bookstore discovered the poster in one of its books, and decided to print copies of it for its clients.

Since a long time had passed, there were no more copyright issues, and prints have been made by people all over the world.

It's funny how, decades later, the message is still meaningful to people. I find it very inspirin and full of wisdom.

The one with the British flag is my favorite.

Cool House Plus a Little Trivia

When I stumbled upon Jordan and Landon's, I knew I had to share it. I love the cool tones they used on their walls, the modern and yet relaxed decoration, and of course, the use of mirrors everywhere

You won't believe what I bought this last Friday, as I stumbled upon a garage sale close to my daughter's school.

  Pretty fabric ribbons for a dollar all three of them.

The pink one is velvet, and it has little flower details.

I know they'll come handy soon. =)

 Oooh, and check out the cool opener, for 40 cents!

I loved it, especially since owls have come such a comeback everywhere.

However, my best buy (and this is no ad, lol) is this:

We are so thrilled!!!!!!!

You must know my daughter LOVES sewing, and she was wanted a machine forever. We've bought her toy machines, but she's been so out of luck, none of them has worked. Well, now her luck has changed, since this is hers. She's really happy!

 And of course, she's already done her exercises. In fact, she has used it every single day. And it is tricky, for you have to move your feet back and forward in the pedal. I still can't make this move, but she has! 

As much as I'm also wishing to learn how to use it, I'm more interested in the possiblities. I'm thinking of painting the little desk white, you know, going for a French look.

Celebrate Pink!

October is the International Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we join the pink celebration of life by sharing with you beautiful pink spaces.

Enjoy!





From high doses to subtle hints, pink is definitely an option, even in so-called masculine spaces. Of course it's girly, but you can also get balance from other elements or colors. Pink's got a huge range of tones, so you can personalize it to your own taste beautifully. I personally like the subtle pink chimney with the owl on the mantle... I love the way it combines with gold, gray and whitle... sublime! 

 

Now back to awareness. Remember early detection in in our own hands. Take care, and take care of the women around you!
