Artists- Patrick Dougherty

Nothing like these gorgeous sculptures and installations for this lovely Friday. Patrick Doughterty is the artist behind the amazing creations.

Combining his carpentry skills and deep love of nature, Patrick began to take interest in primitive techniques of building, which eventually led to massive installations and sculptures he has made all over the world.
Truly inspiring.

DVF Home for Bloomingdale's

Diane von Furstenberg is a great fashion designer, famous for her wrap drees, but, did you know she has a home line at Bloomingdale's?

It has dinnerware, beddings, and more accesories, with a fresh and modern twist to them. I really love them, especially the zebra duvet in dark brown. =)

Happy weekend, everybody! ;)

Designer Spotlight - Emily Henderson

I was looking at Emily Henderson's work, when I bumped into these amazing pics from her work for her HGTV show. Living in Mexico, I haven't seen the show, but I instantly fell in love with her style. I picked these because I like the blue sofas all around (ranging from aqua or turquoise all the way up to cobalt blue and purples). There are a few rooms with a non-blue sofa, but you can find the blue element somewhere (think of rugs, curtains, etc.).
So, why is this interesting for me? Well, for starters, I find it original. Normally you'll find neutral tones, but here she goes all the way with blue, and with quite lovely results. And second of all, this is exactly what I had in mind for my TV room: an aqua velvet sofa.
=)

So, moving on with Emily, I love the vintage feel to all of the spaces. It takes me back to the days when I was a little girl (not so long ago, mind you). Take the retro elements and mix them with a modern twist. The result is so welcoming to me.

And now, time to name favorites! Definitely the turquoise sofa with the big, bulky, rustic coffee table. What's not to love?

And of course, there's the gray rocking chair with the "love" pillow. Sigh.

Have a happy day!

Going Green

Even with the green trend, I find there is still the belief that green design is not trendy enough, luxurious enough, or livable enough. To me, an environmental lover, it's a matter of being congruent with Earth. That's why I love to find good examples of green living and green designing. =)

So, this is how I found about Alex Scott Porter Design, a NY based firm doing green arquitechture. Love it. They're work is truly remarkable.

That's where I saw this gorgeous house, which used an antique barn about to be demolished as an addition to the previous house, joined by the kitchen (the central, glass structure). I love the contrast of old and new, and the simple design which adds elegance to this lovely house.

My favorite rooms are the living room with pink pillows and the bedroom. Exquisite.

Do you fancy green design? Are you up for green living?

Designers - Oki Sato and His Invisible Chair

Picture yourself sitting on thin air. Resting while you float.
It's all possible with the transparent chair.

It's made with polyurethane film, commonly used as a packing material for precision instruments, thanks to its high elasticity and ability to return to its original state.
It softly wraps and supports the body, pretty much like a hammock does.

The amazing chair was designed by Oki Sato y made by his company, Nendo.
I love its simple lines and structure.

Also, from Nendo, I found another quite interesting chair.
Not invisible, but it seems to disappear.

Meet the fadeout chair.
I think it's pretty. And oh so lovely.

The chair's back and seat are wooden, and the acrylic legs are painted so that the wood grain appears to fade away.

Amazing.
