Stylish and Happy Doll House

I've always liked doll houses. In fact, I firmly believe my design addiction grew on me since I was a little girl, all because of doll houses. I had one, I still secretly keep the tiny furniture. Even now in my early thirties with a girl who's begining to leave toys behind, I still feel an irresistible attraction towards doll houses. I want them all. And making my own doll house is even more appealing to me, because it involves everything I like: houses, interior design, tiny things, DIYing, crafting, you name it!

So I guess you'll know by now my amazing surprise with the lovely house Megan from mouse house made for her girls.

Ain't it a beauty? She's fun, happy, and full of details! She's got it all, especially tiny towels, frames, art, a craft room, all made by the amazing  Megan.
It gets me thinking I should make a doll house too. Although I guess I should finish doing my real home before I make a doll one, right? =)

Designer Spotlight - Emily Henderson

I was looking at Emily Henderson's work, when I bumped into these amazing pics from her work for her HGTV show. Living in Mexico, I haven't seen the show, but I instantly fell in love with her style. I picked these because I like the blue sofas all around (ranging from aqua or turquoise all the way up to cobalt blue and purples). There are a few rooms with a non-blue sofa, but you can find the blue element somewhere (think of rugs, curtains, etc.).
So, why is this interesting for me? Well, for starters, I find it original. Normally you'll find neutral tones, but here she goes all the way with blue, and with quite lovely results. And second of all, this is exactly what I had in mind for my TV room: an aqua velvet sofa.
=)

So, moving on with Emily, I love the vintage feel to all of the spaces. It takes me back to the days when I was a little girl (not so long ago, mind you). Take the retro elements and mix them with a modern twist. The result is so welcoming to me.

And now, time to name favorites! Definitely the turquoise sofa with the big, bulky, rustic coffee table. What's not to love?

And of course, there's the gray rocking chair with the "love" pillow. Sigh.

Have a happy day!

Scandinavian Space

Details are very important when decorating, because they help balancing spaces and giving them character and personality. This flatn in Copenhagen is full of accesories and great styling details, which contrast beautifully with the white. Can you find any favorites?

I love the dark colored flowers, following the black-and-white concept, especially how they keep the flat masculine. Pretty interesenting, don't you think?

Designer Spotlight - Thom Filicia

I first fell in love with the work and makeovers of this designer a few years ago, when I used to watch him work as the design guru in Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Now I love to follow him in Style Network's Dress my Nest. Even my daughter is a huge fan now (desing lover in training ;). We never miss his makeovers.

However, Thom Filicia's work goes well beyond his TV Shows. Thom Filicia Inc established in New York City in 1998, and since then he has created beautiful interiors for celebrities, and luxury hotels, among many others. I thought you might want to check them out.

Enjoy.

Christmas Is Over!!!!!

So, what else is new, you ask? I know everyone's probably done with this by now, BUT I'm soooo excited to tell you I finally put away all the Christmas decorations at home (so late, I know!) Well at least I did it just in time for our Birthdays (did I tell you my husband's b-day is tomorrow and my daughter's and mine is the day after tomorrow?) Party, party, party!

I went from this:

to this:

Now the living / dining area feels soooo empty! It's actually VERY empty. This place has no decorations or anything, and it's still missing some furniture. Of course the living room and dining room are part of my goals this year.

Putting away the Christmas decorations turned into this:

Could it get any more embarrassing? Once upon a time, this was an empty room. Little by little, everything ended up here and it soon became the clutter/ironing room. I couldn't stand it. Clutter grew, like a living monster!

During the holidays, I allowed myself not paying attention to it. Then came our vacations, New Year's, you name it. For the first couple of weeks in 2010, my job didn't let me deal with it either.

That was, until TODAY.

You regular readers know that organising is the top priority at Casa Haus this year. Not being organized makes me feel so grumpy and anxious. Not having the time to get organized had made it worse.

To make it easier on me, I'm walking baby steps. My goal is to organize something at home each week. Even if it means a tiny spot somewhere in a room.

After working all morning and some hours in the afternoon, our empty room came back. I threw away a lot of things (mostly boxes and stuff), put away others and some I gave to charity.

(This is still were we iron, hence, the irons and ironing board). Hopefully the laundry room gets done soon to take them over there. Right there on the floor you can see my following assignment.

Of course, the next projects are:

Cleaning and setting up these garden lanterns.

And

Filing paperwork. How exciting!!!! :P

Oh well! At least the empty room's getting ready to turn into the office sometime soon.

Did you get something done this weekend?
