Almost a year ago, we lived the adventure of remodeling tiny bits of our home. To be more precise, we tiled our powder room and built our laundry room. We're still very far from finishing and there are lots of things to do (so what else is new?). This is why I haven't posted on our laundry room. I love the sleek and modern lines on the tiles.
Oh, those lovely days! If you've had the joy of remodeling, you know it's quite an Odyssey. But the confidence in the results helps deal with the whole issue graciously.
Anyhow, when a reader of mine asked about my opinion about tiles for her new bathroom and kitchen, I couldn't help going back to those days. It was actually fun, and it made me discover blogland, so that alone was worth dealing with dust and noise around.
So, here are some options and modern trends in bathroom tiling that make me go nuts.
Mosaics
I'm so in love with this option.
It feels a little retro, but with such a modern twist.
It atually reminds me about pool mosaics from my childhood.
Best thing about this option: most major tile brands have a mosaic line, so you'll be sure to find great deals.
They're truly gorgeous. However, in my experience, mosaics are more expensive than regular tiles. That's why a lot of people choose to use them on one wall instead of all. The results are equally beautiful.
The first thought might be the wall with the sink.
And thus help the mirror and accesories pop up.

You can always pick the shower wall. Amazing results, don't you think?
Or the bathtub wall.
Options are up to you.
Then there's the option we chose: accentuate a part of a wall or walls. This obviously helps reduce costs and it still makes a gorgeous detail, giving that chic, modern look.
Several tile shops have a mosaic version on some tiles, so it's easy to install.
In this picture, they opted for a decorative line around the room. Super cool.
Rectified tiles
Another gorgeous, modern trend. Brief description: a rectified tile has been cut to size after the firing process, and so, it has 90° edges, which helps tighter grouts. The result is a sophisticated and continuous look.
Looks like wallpaper! :)

This is actually the tile we chose (the gray one) from Interceramic.
We went with a light color to give a sense of space. The picture doesn't realy show it, but the tile has a beautiful denim texture.
You can find almost any texture.
Stone-like tiles
At first thought, one might think they're not as modern as the last trend, but wait a little and check these out for me, will you?
They look so good with modern accesories.
There are great options too.
I could go on, and on, and on, and on... and on, but let's stop for a second.
